Holiday Greeting

2012
We wanted to wish everyone, everywhere a very happy holiday season. Christmas is a very special time of year for us and it brings back the memories of loved ones who have passed on and the fond memories that we now cherish because they will never be again. While the future is uncertain, as it always is, happiness is as much a state of mind as it is an experienced reality.

On the advice of a client a few years back, I read a book entitled The Power of Now. The book was inspirational to me, not that I particularly liked the book, to be honest I found it a bit redundant and the author self-promoting; however, the premise of the book was absolute truth. We do not have the power to change the past and living your life completely devoted to the attainment of some goal, some prize, some reward that we hope will manifest itself in our future robs us of the real beauty of life - the present.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a hedonist, I pray earnestly God forgives all my past transgressions. I am not recommending everyone go out and sell all their worldly possessions and join a commune, but I am recommending, to myself most of all, that we stop and smell the proverbial roses. That we drink fully from this cup, this gift from God, and that we remember to be kind to those who need that kindness most and who are in darkness and need a little light.

On Christmas day, a very kind and gentle man and his wife, who I have never met, lost their little girl to an insidious illness. I feel such profound sadness for their loss and I dedicate this image to her memory, small gesture that it is. Can you imagine the conflicting flood of emotion and memories this poor family will endure, God willing, over the decades that will follow? Honestly, thankfully, I personally cannot, but my heart is burdened so by their loss that I felt compelled to share this with anyone who receives this metaphorical message in this metaphorical bottle. Let all of us remember to live fully in our present and say a little prayer for this dear family that God may assuage their anguish and the acute pain from the loss of their daughter.

A very happy new year to everyone, everywhere and my wish that it is a year of peace, joy and kindness.
