Independence Day

Dahlonega, Georgia
I was on hand in Dahlonega to document the fantastic Fourth of July celebration. There was a little bit of everything going on in Dahlonega, Georgia and we had a real blast being there. There was a classic car show, Walter Victor remembered his combat duty WWII, patriotic readings, a watermelon eating contest, a grand parade with Walter Victor as the grand Marshall (did I mention he is a photographer for the Atlanta Braves), a musical performance by Kayla Armstrong and the grand finale - the fireworks show at North Georgia College and State University. It was a great day to be in Dahlonega and a very well organized event.

I got a chance to talk with Tom Graves, the newly elected US Congressman from the ninth district of Georgia. He was a very nice guy; I found him sincere and very grounded. I also had a chance to shake Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle's hand, a real honor. However, the person I most enjoyed meeting was Victor Walter. Walter is a veteran of WWII, he was a participant in the Normandy invasion and the campaigns in North Africa and Sicily. He is a also a professional photographer for the Atlanta Braves. Incredible life and it was truly a distinct honor to meet such a real American hero and listen to him speak to the crowd at the courthouse.

Special thanks to Tony Owens for organizing the festivities, great job! It was a pleasure meeting him and his family. Also, thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for their hospitality and graciousness; it was good to see some old friends again. The whole experience was a lot of fun and the pleasure was all ours.
