Is your media preference film or digital?
All of our photographers shoot digital exclusively. Not to say we will never shoot film and we love the work of many great film photographers, but digital works best for us.
How many photographers do you work with?

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, I will be the primary photographer at your wedding.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
We only book one wedding a day and we are at your disposal for the whole day; you will have my full and undivided attention. It is very, exceedingly, rare that we book more than one wedding on a weekend. You might ask why, and that would be a very good question. The reason is that weddings require an extensive amount of preparation and coordination; we don't just show up and wing it. So we don't normally accept commissions for two days in a row on a weekend.

Other events or sessions, yes, we do schedule sessions on consecutive days. We don't normally schedule multiple sessions on the same day, but it does happen if we can work out the logistics. The difference is that weddings are very intensive events with multiple photographers and assistants - working on a tight time schedule. Other sessions are more free flowing, we don't get wrapped up on time schedules, we just let the sessions develop their own unique identities and we go with the flow, if you will. Hope that answers the question, if anything is still unclear we can clear it up when we talk.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I have three. I have never been forced to use a replacement photographer; however, I trust the three photographers who shoot with my studio implicitly to do a superb job. Please click the button Our Team below and meet our team of photographers and read their bios.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Personally, I will bring four professional digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras: a Nikon D4, two Nikon D3s bodies and a Nikon D3x. The Nikon D4 and D3s bodies are my workhorses, my primary cameras, and they are the best low light cameras in the world, they are amazing cameras that can shoot clean images at very high ISO in very low light. I shoot very fast professional glass in focal lengths from an 8mm circular fisheye all the way to a 400mm super telephoto. Why so many cameras? In case I have a problem with a camera, I just use another body.

For the record, I use very fast glass, meaning I can shoot in low light conditions or can shoot wide open (very large apertures of f/1.4, f/2 or f/2.8) to create very shallow depth of field that makes the subject 'pop' against a very deliciously smooth background. Additionally, I have tilt-shift lenses in 24mm, 45mm and 85mm focal lengths for some really amazing architectural applications, to create that really cool miniature look and feel you may have seen and to create some extraordinarily soft, dreamy and romantic shots that isolate the beautiful bride in all her glory. Additionally, we use a variety of professional lighting equipment: speed lights, Quantum portable flashes, video lights, portable (battery powered) Elinchrom studio strobe flash equipment, large panel and hand held reflectors, diffusers, scrims, gobos, snoots, stands, soft boxes, umbrellas, etc... My team comes prepared, we bring everything we could possibly need and we know how to use what we bring.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Absolutely! I generally have three professional camera bodies on, or near me, during the event to reduce lens changes, but also to provide redundancy should a camera body malfunction. I broke a camera, physically shattered the small LCD on the back, once and I never slowed down. Having backup equipment is an absolute must; all my photographers are prepared for any such contingency. As a client, you should demand that your photographers have redundancy in their equipment.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
If your event will be longer than 8 hours, most are, then "Yes, please" we would appreciate it if you feed us. As for breaks, we're dynamos. We may take a quick break to go to the rest room or get a drink of water, but we're there to shoot and the only time we generally don't shoot is when everyone is eating during the reception; just to be polite.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Absolutely, the images were created with our equipment and it was one of our eyes in the viewfinder and one of our fingers on the shutter. This can sometimes be a very confusing concept for people hiring a photographer for the first time. I own the copyright for all my work, but I license the usage of that work, or I produce reproductions of that work, for my clients. Think of the issue of copyright like this, if you were to write a book and then contract with a publisher to print and sell the book, you would retain the copyright; it was your original work. You sold usage rights to the publisher to print and publish your book; the publisher would pay you the negotiated fee. If later, a movie studio wanted to make a movie from your book, they would come to you to negotiate usage rights to make a film from your book. They would not negotiate with the publisher, they do not hold the copyright, unless you had sold them the copyright. Does that help? If not, call me and we can discuss it further. It may seem a little complex, but it's really not, and it is nothing to be too concerned about. From your perspective, you want access to the images and you shall have that access via usage rights I will grant to you.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
I do, but not for commercial purposes. In other words, I will not license your images to be used in an advertisement campaign without your express permission, but you might see your images on one of my websites or one of my blogs and that will be the extent of it. If I am approached to use one of your images in a commercial campaign I would contact you and I would need your permission, and you would be entitled to compensation for the use of any images with your likeness for commercial purposes. Fair enough?
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, we do provide high resolution digital files to our clients. This occurs generally at the end of the album creation process. Many photographers do not provide their clients high resolution images or they charge a hefty fee. I don't for two reasons. First, I want my clients to have a sense of well-being. If the images are in their possession it is one additional safeguard to prevent permanent loss of the images in the event of a catastrophe (don't worry I have an extensive and well thought out strategy that I employ for file backup). Second, I don't find it ethical to use your images in a capacity that does not enhance our relationship. They are your images, and yes I retain copyright, but that is a completely separate issue. So I will not extort you with your own images and I will provide you with a copy of your images.

What professional associations are you a member of?
We have been members of Professional Photographers of America (PPA) since 2006. PPA is a fantastic organization that promotes education and provides support for professional photographers in the United States. Their website has an abundance of educational, administrative and legal related content. They also offer an accreditation program which several of our photographers are participating or have earned.

National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) is a an organization that promotes and supports the creative products created by Adobe (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, etc..). Professional photographers rely heavily on Photoshop and Lightroom to create their images for their clients. NAPP publishes the magazine Photoshop User and hosts the outstanding online resource Kelby Training, both are must haves for any working professional. We've been members of this organization since 2005.

Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WWPI) is an international photography organization that sponsors regional seminars and national and international conferences to promote and educate photographers. Another superb organization that is a great resource for education and inspiration. WPPI also publishes or is associated with two great periodicals - Rangefinder and PDN (Professional District News). We have been a member of WPPI since 2007.
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Photojournalistic is our dominant style. Capturing important moments during your wedding or during your session is what it's all about to us. Our objective is to create an image that transcends the reality of the moment. The instant the shutter opens and closes collecting the light is only the beginning, what we are really after is creating an image that exposes your soul. The real you, the person behind the facade; the beautiful and honest person everyone else sees, but someone you may not recognize until we introduce you to yourself in a photograph.

Sound a little metaphysical? It's really not. It's just that we all have a perception about ourselves and a vision in our minds of how we look; more like how we think we should look or how we wish we looked. It's not that we're self-deluded as much as the fact that we live inside our minds without the beneift of being able to see oursleves from outside our bodies. Ever wonder why actors are so insecure? It's because they are forced to face how the world perceives them when they view their films. Our goal is to break down those natural barriers we build around ourselves that erode our self-confidence. We are experts at talking you down from the ledge, if you will, and giving you the confidence to just let go and be yourself without the insecurity that accompanies being in front of the camera. Then, and only then, will you relax and let your inner beauty shine through,

Like they say, physical beauty is only skin deep. What is important to us as artists and photojournalists is to capture moments when you are relaxed, just being you. When that happens, and it will happen, we'll create images that have emotional impact. Images that may initially be more easily recognizable by your family or close friends, but images that will become your favorite images of yourself; images in which you'll appreciate your own candor and connect with emotionally.

For the record, we are not one trick ponies. Our approach is best described as hybrid. We meld a variety of styles: Portraiture, Traditional, Contemporary and Posed photographic genres along with our predominance for Photojournalism at the appropriate times to create a body of work that will meet your expectations, and we fervently hope, will exceed those expectations.

Below are four images from the same engagement session. Please observe the diversity in the images. The first image has strong backlight and is a silhouette, the second image has a unique perspective and was shot from the floor looking up with a fisheye lens, the third image is an example of shallow depth of field achieved with very fast glass (f/1.4 in this case) and close proximity to the couple and the last is a classic example of using what nature provides - beautiful indirect sunlight coming in through a window. Each image uses a different technique, but collectively each image contributes to a diverse collection of images that our experience has shown us our clients truly appreciate.
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We do indeed. We love being creative in post production and if you have an idea for an image and would like us to create a certain look or mimic a look you’ve seen in a magazine or on a website we can do it.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Absolutely, we are experts in all types of lighting equipment; from a reflector to a 100 watt video light to camera and off-camera speedlights to studio flash. I use Elinchrom Ranger RX AS and Elinchrom Ranger Quadra battery powered power packs to power studio strobes in remote locations. These lights are phenomenal, and they create the incredible 'pop' in images that only those very fast and powerful strobes can give you. Creating exceptionally beautiful photographs is always a byproduct of generating or capturing the beautiful light and shadow essential in any work of art. We're experts at creating proper lighting when available light is, well, not available. We believe creating beautiful light when it does not exist is what distinguishes a good, but inexperienced, photographer from an exceptional, experienced and competent photographer.
What are the different stages in the evolution of an image from capture to print?
That is a very good question. An image progresses through a number of stages on its way to becoming a print. While there are some photographers that present images to their clients that have not been edited, most professional photographers never would; neither would we.

Photographers follow something called a workflow; this is a process that begins at image capture and ends when the image for a particular level of editing is considered complete. Our studio shoots exclusively digital images and we follow a digital workflow. Capturing the images accounts for about a third of the overall hours contributed to a shoot. In the past the photographer took the images on film and then sent them to a lab where the film was developed and proof prints were returned after a period of time to the photographer who then presented them to the client; this is a film workflow.

The process in the digital workflow is a lot different. Because shooting digitally is much less restrictive, for example instead of 36 exposures on a roll of film many photographers today shoot multiple 64 Gigabyte (GB) memory cards that can hold thousands of images on each card. So the process begins with the careful selection of which images to keep and which to discard, this is referred to as ‘culling’ the images. Once the cull is complete, each image is corrected for exposure, color balance, proper contrast, some are toned black and white and the image is then sharpened. At this point the image is considered to be in a ‘Proof Ready’ state. It’s ready to be presented to the client, but it is not a ‘Finished’ state image.

To finish an image and make it ready for printing a final stage of processing occurs. Finishing is where retouching of the image occurs, blemishes removed, stray hairs removed, eyes brightened and color enhanced, teeth are whitened, skin is smoothed, sharpening, artistic rendering occurs, distractions are removed from the image, sometimes in formal images a head from another image will replace the head in the current image to correct closed eyes or bad expression and additional actions in the same vein may occur.

The image may be converted to a fine art black and white image or a specially toned look might be applied in Photoshop. Dodging (brightening specific areas) or Burning (darkening specific areas) occurs, critical and subtle application of a variety of third party tools may be used to enhance the aesthetic quality of the image. The process is very subjective, requires a great deal of experience and expertise and is often intensely time consuming, but the final product, the finished image is worth the effort.

Not all images will become finished images; most will remain at proof ready status indefinitely. However, all images that are selected for printing or chosen to be included in a wedding album are taken to finished status.
What are your prices?
A reasonable question, but a tough one to answer. Our wedding prices start at $2,750; however, we recommend you allow us to tailor your wedding package to your exacting specifications. Not sure exactly what those specifications should be, we're here to assist you. Each bride we work with is unique and each wedding package should be uniquely tailored to reflect the interests, desires and tastes of each of our brides. There are a lot of options, both in services and products; we'll make sure you are fully informed about those options so you can make an informed decision about what you would like to include in your wedding package. Don't worry, we don't believe in high pressure sales tactics; we'll give you the facts, provide advice when needed and let you decide. Most of our clients have a budget for their wedding and for their photography, we will respect and honor yours.

Do you offer any discounts?
Yes, we have the following discount that will always be honored and we have no intention of ever discontinuing it.

We offer a 30% discount on the products and services in a wedding package for the following qualifying clients. This discount is exclusive to clients who meet the following criteria: the bride or the groom is on active duty in one of the military services, the bride or groom is a veteran of military service in a combat zone, the bride or the groom is currently a police officer or employed in a position that relates to law enforcement, the bride or the groom is currently a fire fighter, the bride or the groom is currently an emergency medical technician, the bride of the groom is currently a school teacher in grades K through 12. If both bride and groom are eligible for the discount, the 30% discount is not cumulative and is only applied once.

This discount is earned and it allows us, in a small way, to pay a debt everyone owes to members of our society that provide an extremely important service to each of us and to those who place a high value on public service. These citizens choose to serve their country and their communities without regard to economic compensation; service, in their eyes, is reward enough.

These clients are especially near and dear to our hearts and our studio chooses to acknowledge their service in this way, we hope all of our clients qualify for this discount, but if you do not, please understand why the discount is exclusive to those who do. It is not that we do not appreciate your patronage, we do, very much; but, these qualifying clients are critical to the health and the welfare of our society and deserve great wedding photography at a price they can afford.
Travel Expenses
Do you charge for travel?
Not unless the wedding is outside the metro Atlanta area and we're pretty liberal on that as well. Travel expenses are based on a one way charge of $1 per mile from the metro Atlanta area to the location of the shoot, for wedding clients this is your wedding venue. Here is the basic calculation: I-85 North we start at Lawrenceville, I-85 South we start at Fairburn, I-75 North we start at Marietta, I-75 South we start at McDonough, I-20 East we start at Conyers, I-20 West we start at Douglasville and for GA 400 and north we cover all the way to Blairsville.

Call us and we'll give you a quote, we use Google Maps as the basis for our calculations. We love destination weddings; we will travel to any location in the world you desire. We charge $60 a head for lodging and meals the day before your wedding (very reasonable indeed). For air travel, the cost will be based on the best ticket price we can book, the further out we can book, the lower the cost; we fly economy fare of course.

All travel costs will be included in the wedding package proposal. Destination weddings are really fun for us, so if you are thinking about getting married at an exotic location we're the ones jumping up and down with our hands up in the air. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.
Event Coverage
Do you charge by the hour or do you have a full day rate?
Our wedding prices are based on a full day rate. So when you book us for your wedding or event you don't need to watch the clock and worry about paying an additional hourly rate charge. We would not like to be treated that way and so we don't treat our clients that way.

Let's be honest, the last thing you need to worry about in the middle of your wedding reception is having to pay additional fees for the photographers. It's like being in the middle of a great movie and having to run out to the street to stick coins in a parking meter. So, no worries, relax, enjoy your reception or event and we'll leave when it's over.
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
No such thing exists for us. If you book us you receive full day coverage; we don't stop shooting until it's over. So, we're there from the bride's preparations until the happy couple departs for their honeymoon.
Products & Services Offered
What products and services are included in your wedding packages?
We have predefined wedding packages that allow our clients to comparison shop while deciding on their photographer. However, we truly prefer to design a completely custom package with products and services tailored to the needs and the budget of our clients. The list of our products is voluminous and very diverse. In fact, if you don't see something you would like to include in your package, tell us what you want and we'll make arrangements to add it to our list of offered products.

Our services will vary depending on the type of event. Weddings are the most service intense and we offer one, two, three of four photographers and one or two assistants. Of course the size of the wedding party, the number of guests and the logistics required for dispersed geographic locations for preparation, ceremony and reception venues factor into our recommendations. A big part of our service to our clients is consulting. Wedding planners and coordinators are real assets, but they are not experts when it comes to photography. Involving us early in the process, particularly during the coordination and planning for the itinerary is critical, so please keep us in mind and allow us to assist.

We include engagement sessions in all our wedding packages, unless our client wishes to omit the session. It’s our chance to get to know you, have a cup of coffee, share stories and have some laughs. We’ll ask you how you met, when you knew you were in love and how he popped the question. It also gives you a chance to become comfortable with us, view our work and know that we’ll capture some beautiful images of the two of you. We’ll go to a location, or locations, of your choosing. Places that are important to you, where you met, where you hang out, your favorite park or local attraction. Whatever you want; it’s your day, you choose. Need ideas, no problem, we know some great spots and have our list of favorites to choose from that will match your personality.

You might be interested in a bridal session before the wedding or a cherish the dress session after the wedding. These are great sessions to take our time, use studio lighting and create some truly stunning images. Do you want us to document your rehearsal dinner; we do that. You may want a photo booth for the reception, we can provide that service, but we do it a little differently and use high quality cameras, lenses, lights, backdrops, a treasure chest full of props and the quality is incredible.

Regarding products, we offer a wide assortment of fine quality handcrafted wedding albums, coffee table books, matted and framed prints, gallery wraps, prints, thank you cards, save the date cards and magnets, proof books, proof sets and the list goes on and on. We use a variety of suppliers and recommend products that will meet the needs of our clients without busting their budget.

Finally, our clients receive all their selected images on a high quality USB flash drive, in an attractive case, with a usage rights agreement authorizing them to print their images themselves. We don't recommend our clients do that because of the exacting quality concerns we have, but the last thing we would ever do is extort our clients with their own images. We trust that our clients are intelligent enough to make those types of decisions for themselves; we respect them and appreciate their patronage.

So, the real question is what do you want in your wedding package? The answer is, whatever you want you can have.

What kind of albums do you offer?
We offer a wide assortment of wedding albums, parent albums, grandparent albums, signature albums, etc... We only deal with vendors that offer high quality products. Now that is not to say that all products are high end and very expensive albums. There is a great variety of different products available that can fit within any budget. We will work with you to provide you with an album, a coffee table book, or any other product that tickles your fancy; a product that will fit within your budget. You'll find us easy to work with and we're reasonable on our pricing; in other words, we believe in giving our clients what they need or want and providing a great value for their money.
When will the client get the final album?
Creating an album is a process. It is hard to specify an exact time frame because so much depends on the client approval process, once we have final approval of the design from a client the album will be delivered within 4 weeks.
What if you don't currently offer a service or a product that we REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want, what then?
We add it to our list of services and products; we find a way to meet your needs. If that means contracting a service with another vendor or establishing a relationship with a new vendor that offers the product you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want, then that is what we do, we go and make a new friend and we make you happy.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
In any format you would like; but, generally, we present them in a password protected online gallery. We use Proof|Pro, simply the best product available for this purpose. In order to provide a larger viewing size on your computer screen, we use Dropbox, a free online storage service that provides 2 GB of space; plenty of room to upload your proofs that your are free to share online with your cyber friends and your family. Ultimately, we will send you a USB flash drive with both high (printable) and low (computer viewable) image versions on the drive. If you would like 4x6 proofs in a very nice proof box, a book bound or sprial bound proof book of your proof images please let us know. We offer some great products at reasonable prices.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
We promise, and include language in our contract, that your images will be available online in your private proofing gallery and in an online Dropbox folder within 30 days from the date of your event. Generally, it is about half that amount of time, but we promise to have your images to you within 30 days (just in case something unforeseen happens). Your blog post, or a teaser blog post at a minimum (sorry, but it's what we do ;-) is within a few days.
How can we see our images?
Once we complete the post processing of your images you will be sent two passwords for your private website. One is a password for visitors and the other is a password for you, the gallery owner. Enter your owner password to get to your images. For a preview, click on the button below to be taken to the online gallery page. Find your gallery, they are sorted by event date descending,, click on it and enter your email address and your password to gain access to your private online gallery.
